Blackpool v Cardiff Preview

Well its the £80 million match on Saturday afternoon when the minnows of Blackpool take on the not so mighty Cardiff in the Championship Play Off Final at Wembley.

There's no doubt about the neutral's favourite in the Championship play-off final and it's Blackpool all the way. They've got nice Tangerine shirts, a big beach and the madcap manager that is Ian Holloway. But you can't help feel that while Holloway's achievement at Bloomfield Road has been rightly lauded, the luminous glow of the Tangerine fairytale has blinded many to the success of the Bluebirds.

Premier League fans rub their hands at the prospect of Blackpool away offering a day out at the beach, but Cardiff's attractions shouldn't be overlooked, Charlotte Church anyone?

Anyway back to the footie and while my heart says Blackpool & my head says Cardiff, I'm opting to sit on the fence with this one and plump for a draw. Both matches so far this season have ended 1-1 and with so much at stake I think a draw after 90 mins is worth a punt.

The first goalscorer is a tricky one to predict as Cardiff have goals spread throughout the side with Chopra, Whittingham & Bothroyd all hitting double figures this term. However a lively outsider could be midfielder Chris Burke who has 9 goals this season, with 5 of those being the opening goal.

He is a tempting 12/1 with Blue Sq and is surely worth a little wager.

In Play Betting & Amir Khan

Today I'm going to touch on the subject of in play betting, which is a handy tool to use when attempting to leaver some cash from our bookmaking foes, and one that worked out fine for me at 4am this morning.

The introduction of In-Play betting has been a revelation to most hardened punters. The ability to actually watch an event and be able to bet at the same time seems simple enough but it's arguably one of the best things to come out of the bookmaker industry. For years, punters have always wandered what it would be like to bet on an event while it's taken place and you would often hear them screaming 'i knew that would happen'. Now the voices have the opportunity to prove it with near enough every online bookmaker featuring hundreds of live sporting events each week.

IN PLAY TIPS

Discipline
Ensure you keep to a stable betting bank. If you lose, try not to chase your loses. A profitable punter will pick his bets carefully and will be very selective.

Observation
Watch the event you are betting on. This is the most important rule to adhere to, the whole point is that you are viewing the game looking for observations on which team or player can help make you a profit.

As mentioned earlier for instance, this morning I was watching Amir Khan at Madison Square Gardens. As the rounds went by it was obvious Paulie Malignaggi was taking too much punishment and was tiring quickly, so I logged on to my bookmaker to see the price for a stoppage. It was 5/4 which I thought was a little short so I left it alone. However at the end of the 9th round I noticed the doctor & referee looking closely at Malignaggi in his corner, so I thought "this guy is going to struggle to get through another three rounds". Another glance at my bookies odds showed the price for a stoppage had lengthened to 7/4 so I stuck £40 on it. Sure enough come the 11th round the referee stepped in to call it a day.

Now for me that was almost a no lose bet as it was obvious the fight wasn't going to go the distance. however if I had not been watching then I wouldn't have noticed the doctor and referee looking concerned so would probably have lost the opportunity to make easy cash. So if betting in play, it is imperative you watch the action if at all possible, as every little piece of information helps.

One Came In

Well the 4-1 that was offered for a Blackpool victory over Nottm' Forest last night paid for my takeaway, which was nice. Its just a shame that Charlie Adams didn't get his usual goal against Forest as the double would have been nice but hey... Thats life.

Well done Blackpool anyhow, enjoy your day out at Wembley, and don't right them off either. They were one of only four teams to beat Newcastle in the league and have beaten Nottm' Forest four times out of four this season.

Europa League Final

English upstarts Fulham meet Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid on Wednesday with both clubs bidding to become the first side ever to lift the Europa League title.

So who will get it...

Los Colchoneros or The Cottagers?

For Atletico it is a chance to make up for a pretty dismal season really, for Fulham its a chance to top off a pretty remarkable campaign.

On the face of it Atletico have just not performed in Spain and only lately in Europe. They can finish no higher than 9th in la liga and were somewhat fortunate to get through to the Europa league after finishing 3rd in their Champions League group without winning a game. Even in the Europa league they won only two out of eight league ties and survived a couple of late penalty appeals against Valencia in the quarter finals to somehow make it through. However they did oust both Sporting & Liverpool on the way to the final.

Fulham have been nothing short of sensational in the Europa League this season. They may be situated in one of Londons wealthiest areas but the Cottagers' history is not trophy rich.

Fulham muddled their way through the group stages with a frequently rotated side but once Premier League survival was all but secured they began to shine in the knock out stages. Victory over Shaktar Donesk was a surprise but that was surpassed with the fantastic fightback against Juventus which ended 5-4. Both Wolfsburg & Hamburg have since been dismissed so I see no reason why cannot overcome Madrid to top off a truly outstanding season.

Fulham are a best price 11-4 with Betfred Sports to win in 90 mins and that looks good value to me.

They are 11-8 to lift the trophy but I think I'll stick with the 90 minute price.

Nott'm Forest v Blackpool

Blackpool travel to Forest tonight holding a 2-1 lead as they push for a first ever season in the Premier League
